Taiwan blir mer isolerat – allierad vänder sig till Kina

The Republic of China (ROC), commonly known as Taiwan, has full diplomatic relations with 13 of the 193 United Nations member states and with the Holy See (Vatican City). In addition to these relations, the ROC also maintains unofficial relations with 59 UN member states, one self-declared state (Somaliland), three territories (Guam, Hong Kong, and Macau), and the European Union via its representative offices and consulates under the One China principle. Taiwan has the 31st largest diplomatic network in the world with 110 offices.Historically, the ROC has required its diplomatic allies to recognise it as the sole legitimate government of "China" (competing for exclusive use of the name "China"), starting in the early 1970s when the ROC was replaced by the PRC as the recognised government of "China" in the UN following Resolution 2758 including its key position such as a permanent membership on the United Nations Security Council. But since the 1990s, its policy has changed into actively seeking dual recognition with the People's Republic of China (PRC). Many international organizations that the ROC participates in use alternative names, including "Chinese Taipei" at the International Olympic Committee.
