Gorbatjov: Bra att Putin och Trump äntligen möts
Sovjetunionens siste ledare Michail Gorbatjov uppmanar Vladimir Putin och Donald Trump att återupprätta tilliten mellan Ryssland och USA.
– Framför allt är det bra att mötet äntligen blir av, men det är synd att det sker först nu. Mycket tid har gått förlorad och det måste de kompensera för nu, säger Gorbatjov till den statliga ryska nyhetsbyrån Ria Novosti enligt AFP.
Putin och Trump möts i morgon på G20-mötet i Hamburg, världsledarnas första möte öga mot öga. Relationen mellan länderna är nu på den lägsta nivån sedan kalla krigets slut, skriver AFP.

Russia–United States relations is the bilateral relationship between the United States and the Russian Federation, the successor state to the Soviet Union. Russia and the United States maintain diplomatic and trade relations. The relationship was generally warm under Russia's President Boris Yeltsin (1991–1999) until the NATO bombing of the Federal Republic of Yugoslavia in the spring of 1999, and has since deteriorated significantly under Vladimir Putin. In 2014, relations greatly strained due to the crisis in Ukraine, Russia's annexation of Crimea, and, in 2015, by sharp differences regarding Russian military intervention in the Syrian Civil War. Mutual sanctions imposed in 2014 remain in place.
A 2017 survey conducted by the Pew Research Center showed 41% of Russians had a positive view of the US, only one of two countries surveyed where positive perception for the US increased, 52% however expressed a negative view. The same study also showed 53% of Russians had confidence in the current US leader, President Donald Trump compared to just 11% for former President Barack Obama.
