Nigeria rasar mot HSBC:s penningtvätt åt diktatorn
Nigerianska regeringen rasar mot den brittiska storbanken HSBC sedan banken varnat för korruption vid omval av sittande president Muhammadu Buhari, skriver Bloomberg. Banken, som konstaterats ha möjliggjort penningtvätt åt landets tidigare diktator Sani Abacha, beskylls för dubbelmoral.
– Plundringen som genomfördes av ledare och som möjliggjordes av banker som HSBC mördade Nigerias ekonomi, säger Garba Shehu, talesman för regeringen.
– Banken fortsatte skydda stölderna fram tills för bara några månader sedan, säger talesmannen.
Utredningar har avslöjat att storbanker medverkade till plundring på över 1,3 miljarder dollar fram till diktatorns död 1998.
